A Christie's specialist may contact you to discuss this lot or to notify you if the condition changes prior to the sale.
The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
Oil on canvas. Not lined. Varnished. Some minor frame abrasion with associated rubbing, hairline craquelures and silver paint remnants from an old frame along the extreme edges. Some pale surface dirt. The canvas undulates very slightly. One canvas tear (approx. 1.5 cm.) with associated small paint losses towards the upper right corner. One vertical small surface scuff (approx. 3 cm.) at the lower left corner. A further vertical surface scuff (approx. 3.5 cm.) towards the centre of the composition, probably done when the painting was still fresh. A very few minute and barely visible lines of craquelures in the lighter pigments in a few places in the sky. Examined under ultra-violet light: no apparent retouching. Subject to the foregoing, it is our opinion that this work appears to be in generally good condition.
