A Christie's specialist may contact you to discuss this lot or to notify you if the condition changes prior to the sale.
The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
This folio is in a fair condition overall. The folio has an overall buckled texture and the margins have been trimmed slightly and mounted with plain and gold-speckled card edges. The borders have some discolouration and light staining which is more visible on the side with the bird of prey. There is an area of discolouration in a rectangular shape, probably from the rules of an illustration previously mounted next to this folio, which affects the inner edge of both paintings and the borders, as shown in the illustration, with some very small, associated cracks. There is a horizontal crack to the centre of the paintings with some very small associated losses, most of which has been repaired, and some pinholes to the folio which are only visible upon very close inspection. The pigments of the Taj Mahal ilustration are clear overall with some scattered minor pigment loss. There are some small areas of repair and restoration including an area of repair to the lower right edge of the painting. The bird of prey has some pigment loss and areas of repair including a rectangular area in the lower part of the painting measuring approximately 11 x 1.5cm. There is some tape residue around the edges of the card margins and the upper right corner of the card margins has a pencil inscription with '11/20000'.
