Sale Overview
Christie’s New York Wine Department is delighted to announce an exclusive online single owner sale The Private Collection of Ben Ichinose. 626 lots representing the world’s best wines and spirits from the cellar of a celebrated collector and connoisseur.
The collection spans the finest wines from Bordeaux, Burgundy, Mosel, Port, and Madeira, presented alongside the greatest assemblage of mature Californian wines to appear at auction. Many bottles feature exceptional provenance as they were purchased directly from the producers or through Esquin, Alexis Lichine and George Linton. The collection includes the esteemed vintages of 1929, Mr. Ichinose’s birth year, and 1961, 1964 and 1965, the birth years of his children.
Large formats of 1961 and 1964 Bollinger, set aside for Mr. Ichinose by Madame Bollinger. From Bordeaux, an impressive selection of Château Lafite-Rothschild, featuring a 1961 imperial. Top vintages from all of the First Growths, Latour, Margaux, Mouton, Haut-Brion, La Mission, Cheval-Blanc, and Petrus. The Burgundy section is astounding, from a jeroboam of 1970 DRC Romanée-Conti to the famed 1929 Les Gaudichots to mature white Burgundy in fantastic condition, like Leflaive’s Bâtard Montrachet 1969. California features the impressive Beaulieu Vineyard Private Reserve 1951, verticals from Inglenook, and magnums of 1975 Heitz Martha’s.
