The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
The canvas is unlined and is on its original stretcher, which is providing good support. There is some light discoloration to the varnish and surface dirt visible in the upper third of the painting. There are a few retouching’s (around the trees on the right), that have discoloured slightly, and are visible to the naked eye. The paint layer appears slightly thin in the lower right corner of the painting, but this is likely consistent with the artist’s technique, rather than being overcleaned.
Under UV light there are scattered retouching’s to the sea, sky and foreground trees. There are also a number of retouching’s to the edges, consistent with frame abrasions, these are not visible to the naked eye.
