Sale Overview
This Autumn, Christie’s is delighted to bring to the market the first of a series of sales of snuff bottles, all hailing from Important Private Collections. Made using precious materials such as glass, jade, jadeite, porcelain and agate and employing masterful craftmanship including carving and painting, this group of snuff bottles is a true testament to the skills of Chinese artisans of the 18th and 19th centuries.
The highlights of this sale include a rare and superb Beijing enamel snuff bottle, Palace Workshops, Qing Dynasty, 1785–1799, depicting a pair of pheasants in a garden setting; and a finely carved Cameo agate snuff bottle, Zhiting School, Suzhou, Qing Dynasty 1760–1850.
