The Navitimer debuted in 1954 and its name is derived from a combination of the words "navigator" and "timer." Breitling and AOPA (Aircraft Owners & Pilots Association) decided to develop a revolutionary wristwatch featuring a chronograph and a navigation tool - a slide rule that allows pilots calculate speed, remaining distances, fuel consumption and other useful information. Since the inception of the Navitimer, Breitling has made many variations of the model. The present example is an interesting variation, named the Navitimer Airborne. This watch features a 38mm case which is smaller than most of the Navitmier's and it also features an subsidiary dial at 12 o'clock displaying the date in an analog fashion. The date is controlled by a corrector on the side of the case at 11 o'clock.

The case is in good condition with scratches. The case appears to be unpolished. The dial and hands appear to be original and in excellent condition. The luminous material in the hands and on the dial have darkened. When resetting the chronograph the center seconds hand does not always zero out. The movement is in working order at the time of cataloging, consistent with the age of the watch. The movement has not been tested for accuracy. A service is recommended given the age of the watch.
The condition of lots sold can vary widely due to factors such as age, previous damage, restoration, repair and wear and tear. The nature of the lots sold means that they will rarely be in perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
