Lot Essay

The present five plates are missing a sixth companion, ZYN UITTOGT ('his departure'), depicting the second scene in the parable. A similar set of six Dutch-decorated English creamware plates painted with the complete set of scenes was sold by Christie's, London, 18 November 1999, lot 14, and a slightly earlier example in Leeds creamware with Dutch decoration was sold by Christie's, London, 21 January 2003, lot 131.
