This type of enamelling is often attributed to the Fromery workshop, a family of French enamellers established in Berlin since the 17th century and whose work was very fashionable across Europe in the 18th century.
In ancient Chinese mythology, the pear tree symbolises immortal life and prosperity due to the longevity of the tree while in Greek and then Roman mythology, pears are a sacred fruit linked to the goddesses Hera and Aphrodite but also to the nymph Pomona, divinity of fruits.
