ESTAMPILLE DE ROGER VANDERCRUSE DIT LACROIX, VERS 1765
Roger Vandercruse fut l'un des ébénistes les plus accomplis de l'époque Louis XVI. Beau-frère de Jean-François Oeben (puis de Jean-Henri Riesener), ainsi que de Simon Oeben et du ciseleur André Ravrio, Lacroix établit son atelier rue du Faubourg Saint-Antoine et utilisa deux estampilles, « LACROIX » et la version abrégée « R.V.L.C. », selon que ses mécènes étaientprivés ou marchands. Patronné des marchands-merciers Pierre IV Migeon (entre 1751 et 1758) et Simon-Philippe Poirier, pour qui il fournit les meubles destinés à Madame du Barry à Louveciennes à la fin des années 1760. Il fournit également des commodes pour Gilles Joubert, ébéniste du roi.
Roger Vandercruse a livré de nombreux meubles d'époque Transition. Ils font la synthèse du savoir-faire des ébénistes et du goût pour les motifs feuillagés caractéristiques du règne de Louis XV, ainsi que de l'attrait pour les ornements néoclassiques qui se développe dans la deuxième partie du XVIIIe siècle. Un jeu savant de marqueterie aux formes géométriques, alliant différentes essences de bois et rehaussé de bronzes dorés, se retrouve sur plusieurs commodes similaires estampillées par Roger Vandercruse (J. Nicolay, op. cit. ; P. Kjellberg, op. cit. ; Musée des Arts Décoratifs de Paris, inv. CAM 339). Notons également une commode comparable vendue par la maison de vente Sotheby's (vente Sotheby's, Paris, 16 avril 2013, lot 135).

Good overall condition. Illustrations published on the website catalogue are accurate despite being slightly too dark. There are the inevitable minor dents, marks, scratches, shrinkage cracks and rubbing due to age and use. Marble: there are some minor inevitable chips especially to the edges. There are some minor marks and scratches to the surface as expected. Gilding: there are some signs of tarnishing throughout as expected. bronze: the leg mount of the right back foot kas been broken (due to an ancient casting flaw) and needs to be re-fixed properly. As stated to the catalogue, the mounts of the feet are later. Veneer: there are some minor chips especially to the edges as expected. Some wooden pieces has been replaced. There is a vertical shrinkage crack to the right side of the commode.
