Bidding starts: 6 days

16 OCT 10AM CEST – 29 OCT 12PM CET

Sale Overview

This October, Christie’s presents Collections, an auction series taking place in New York, London and Paris, offering classical decorative arts. Curated for collectors and lovers of this category and presented in tandem in the three locations, these sales feature works of art from distinguished private collections.

In Paris, the sale spotlights Robert Couturier’s collection from his 17th-century property in Normandy, bringing together an eclectic mix of furniture, objets d’art and paintings spanning different periods. An interior designer of undisputed international renown, Robert Couturier combines taste, materials and colours in a chic harmony of French elegance. Celebrated French cabinet-makers and carpenters of the 18th century such as Pierre Migeon, Etienne Doirat, Nicolas Heurtaut and Jean Gourdin are represented in the collection, as well as modernist legends like Jean-Michel Franck.

Alongside the Couturier collection, the Paris autumn auction features a group of 18th- and 19th-century furniture and decorative arts assembled by two connoisseurs, including in particular a suite of four Louis XVI armchairs à la Reine stamped by Philippe Poirier, from the storied collection of Hubert de Givenchy, as well as artworks signed by the greatest names in 19th-century cabinet-making, such as Alfred Beurdeley, Paul Sormani and the renowned Parisian firm L’Escalier de Cristal. Next to a selection of 18th-century European furniture and objets d’art, the sale also includes a set of gold boxes, including a gold, Pietra dura, micro-mosaic and enamel ‘leopard print’ snuff-box by Pierre-Lucien Joitteau in Paris in 1774, and a French Restoration gold and cloisonné Pietra dura snuffbox by Jean-Baptiste Fossin.
