Sale Overview
Christie’s is pleased to present The Collector from 23 March-7 & 8 April, offering a curated selection of fine European and English furniture and works of art, ceramics, silver and Chinese works of Art spanning from the 17th to 20th centuries.
The sale features several prominent collections of English furniture featuring iconic makers such as Gillows, Cox and Worster, and John Linnell. Highlights include a core group of George II solid mahogany seating furniture, Neoclassic designs of the Regency period and scarlet and black gilt-japanned cabinets from The Barbara Allen de Kwiatkowski Collection.
Spanning the Continent, highlights include Louis XV and Louis XVI objets d’art, specifically works after designs by François Vion, and a pair of elegant marquises made for Versailles. Among the silver and ceramics offerings, highlights works by the pre-eminent silversmiths Georg Jensen and Puiforcat, and important pâte-sur-pâte vases by Léopold-Jules-Joseph Gély and Louis Solon while working at the Sèvres and Minton factories, respectively.
Through our interactive Viewing Room, engage with our spring Tastemaker, the imaginative and adventurous illustrator Riley Sheehey, whose watercolor vignettes bring dynamic context and fresh perspective to the sale offerings. Ms. Sheehey’s ever-expanding portfolio, including a recent capsule collection Moda Operandi and holiday collaboration with Sister Parish, underscore her unique talent and sense of style expressed in her work.
