Condition report
A Christie's specialist may contact you to discuss this lot or to notify you if the condition changes prior to the sale.
The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
This impressive cartel clock is in good overall condition. There are the inevitable minor dents, marks, scratches and rubbing consistent with age and use. As stated in the catalogue the bracket is associated with ormolu mounts probably later, especially to mask.
Dial : two losses to the number 'IX' with minor hairline cracks. Some chips and losses to the enamel of the key hole (number 'XII'). Slightly rubbed. Boulle marquetry : Some minor cracks and old restorations as expected with some minor losses especially to the upper part. Some brass elements are flacking especially to the upright of the bracket console.
Ormolu mounts : the basket above the dial is later. Some minor elements are lacking especially to the upper part of the right uprights. Gilding : slightly rubbed with signs of tarnishing especially to the figures and to the exposed areas. Some traces of white cleaning product especially to the frieze of the central glazed panel.
As stated in the catalogue, the sign to the movement is spurius.
Please note that this condition report has been written from a work of art and not a time-measuring object point of view. Therefore this lot has to be checked by a professional clock-maker.
