Lot Essay

This beautifully enameled cigarette case was a joint purchase by Emperor Nicholas II and Empress Alexandra Feodorovna. Their respective households were each billed by Fabergé for 112.5 roubles, half the total purchase price of 225 roubles. The invoice illustrated here has the quantity noted as '1/2'. This was not an uncommon practice as some of the jointly purchased items were often presented as gifts to their extended family.
