To celebrate the Year of the Tiger with our collectors, Christie’s is proud to present Dawn of Spring: Chinese Paintings Online, which offers a selection of paintings and calligraphy ranging from Classical and Modern to the Contemporary period. Many works in the sale will share themes of the Spring season, the New Year, prosperity and harmony so important to the festivity.
The sale, meticulously put together for art collectors and enthusiasts and sourced from different parts of the world, features several private collections. The Property from the Estate of David and Jo Hess, one of the collections offered in the sale, includes significant works by Zhang Daqian, Huang Junbi, and Cheng Tinglu. There are also numerous paintings and calligraphy from the family collection of renowned Hong Kong collector Jiang Shaoyan.
The sale brings together outstanding works by representative 20th-century Chinese artists such as Lin Fengmian, Feng Zikai, Pu Ru, Zhao Shao’ang, Yang Shanshen, Ding Yanyong; and contemporary artists such as Tung Chiao, Tang Wai Hung, Chua Lam, Lui Shou-kwan and Irene Chou, to name just a few. It also offers a selection of paintings by Zhang Shanzi and the disciples of the Dafengtang Studio.
