An English Meteorite - A Partial Slice of the Wold Cottage Meteorite
Fell to Earth in Yorkshire, England, 1795; modern cutting
This trapezoidal partial slice evidences a few large angular chondrule fragments, some scattered grains of metallic iron-nickel and a singular shock vein that traverses the specimen. The vein was produced on the parent asteroid after it was struck by another large body while in the asteroid belt between Jupiter and Mars. The matrix of this partial slice is further embellished by ochre accents, the result of terrestrialization.
