The canvas has been subject to relining, it is held under tension and remains stable. Examination in natural light sows a fine pattern of craquelure across the surface. There appears to be some associated retouching in the hair. Examination under UV light reveals scattered restoration to the left-hand side of the sitter's face, the dress and the curtains in the upper left and right corners. The paint is stable and the fluidity of handling remains appreciable.
