Sale Overview
The sale will open with one of the finest private collections of Vintage Port to feature at auction in a generation. The Ports come directly from the cellars of Raby Castle in County Durham, where they have been stored since they were acquired, on release, by the ancestors of the current Lord Barnard. The collection will be split across sales this year, but this first selection in June will be the most significant and will include deep parcels of rare Ports including: Dow 1924, Fonseca 1934 and the legendary Taylor 1948.
A further highlight of the sale are six bottles of Cuvée Charles III, a unique secret blend of red Bordeaux from Château Smith Haut Lafitte that has been produced to commemorate the visit of King Charles III and Queen Camilla to the Château in September 2023. The hammer proceeds from the sale of the bottles will be donated to The King’s Trust Group.
Elsewhere, a single owner collection forms the backbone of the sale. Domaine de la Romanée-Conti leads with vintages of La Tâche, including 2005 and 2010. Clos de Tart and Domaine Comte Georges de Vogüé are further Burgundian offerings. Petrus from the 1996-2012 vintages represents Bordeaux alongside Château Pichon Lalande from 2001-2012.
