Christie’s presents The Cellar of a Meticulous Wine Lover Part II. This is the collection of a wine lover with a passion to learn and taste the very finest wine the world has to offer and, as importantly, to share. The collector often opened truly spectacular wines with humble modesty, simply enjoying the glass and the effect it has on fellow wine lovers at the table.
The meticulous nature of this collector is one standout feature, with purchasing notes on nearly all of the cellar. This attention to detail means fastidious sourcing, with all younger wines purchased on release from the most reputed British and Hong Kong merchants, and others acquired through top auctions with exceptional provenance.
Bordeaux is at the centre of this collection, with historic vintages back to the early twentieth century including 1921 Château Cheval Blanc, 1966 Pétrus, and 1998 Château Angélus,. Other First Growth highlights include Château Lafite-Rothschild 1967 and 1982, Château Latour with vintages from the 1950s to the 1980s, Château Margaux 1945 and 1959, Château Haut-Brion 1921 and 1989, and Château Mouton Rothschild 1959 and 1986.
Burgundy has drawn their focus over the last decade or so, especially the greats from the Côte de Nuits such as Roumier, Rousseau, Dujac, Leflaive, and many more. Highlights include Domaine Rene Engel, Christophe Roumier and sought-after Maison Leroy, Puligny Montrachet Les Folatieres.
Australia is close to this collector heart, with coveted parcels from Henschke, notably multiple vintages of the legendary Hill of Grace and Cyril Henschke Cabernet Sauvignon, as well as a stunning range of the cult Wendouree Shiraz from the 1990s to 2010s.
Other remarkable collections in this auction include parcels of 2000 and 2008 Château Lafite-Rothschild, 2009 Château Angélus, 1990 and 2000 Pétrus, all in original wooden cases. Also featured are highly sought after Burgundy producers such as Henri Jayer, Domaine de la Romanée-Conti and Domaine Leroy.
