Sale Overview
Christie’s is privileged to present High Style in Highland Park: The Collection of Mr. & Mrs. Edwin L. Cox. The sale will honor the late noted businessman, collector and philanthropist Edwin Lochridge Cox, who stood at the forefront of civic life in Texas and the greater United States. A cherished figure in his home city of Dallas, Cox was celebrated as not only a true visionary in the field of American energy, but also as an indispensable benefactor and patron of some of America’s most important cultural institutions. Across his 99 years, Edwin L. Cox cultivated a profound personal legacy centered on the core values that guided his extraordinary trajectory: entrepreneurship, scholarship and the importance of helping others. The home he shared with his wife, Ann Rife Cox, and family in Dallas’s historic Highland Park served as the magnificent backdrop to one of the greatest American collections of Impressionist masterpiece works, and also to his collection of antiques and decorative arts. The Coxes created a home which served as a brilliant example of the merging of European masterworks with sophisticated examples of decorative art - a striking mise-en-scène for a museum worthy private collection. The collection became not only one of the United States’ finest art collections, but also a source of great beauty and joy for the Coxes, their children, and grandchildren. The sale includes European Furniture, American and Nineteenth Century European Paintings, European Silver and European Porcelain and Glass.
