The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
The panels are not cradled, though the second exhibits an approximately 1/8 inch convex vertical bow. The varnish is cloudy yellowed and has gone matte in places. The paint is stable on the support. A moderate craquelure is visible in natural light, particularly in the light colored flesh tones. Light scuffing due to frame abrasion is visible along the edges, as are several small, unobtrusive paint chips along the edge of the lower half of the second painting. Ultraviolet light does not easily penetrate the varnish layer. The paintings would likely benefit if the varnish were refreshed.
