    A Pair of Fine and Elegantly Gilded Imari Chargers
    Edo period (late 17th - early 18th century)
    Each decorated in iron-red, black enamel, pink wash and gilt on underglaze blue with a central roundel depicting a tripod flowerpot containing pine, bamboo and plum on a balustraded wooden terrace, framed by a narrow band with stylised flowers and karakusa, encircled to the rim with a wide band depicting two large ho-o birds amongst peony and chrysanthemum, two panels in the form of clouds containing peony and karakusa on a gold ground, the reverse with sprays of peony, plum and chrysanthemum
