A Rare Enamelled Arita Dish
Edo period (late 17th century)
Decorated in iron-red, green, yellow, aubergine and black enamels and gilt on underglaze blue with a central roundel enclosing the sprays of chrysanthemums and peonies in a vase, surrounded by a band with plum blossom, the eight radiating border panels at the rim enclosing alternatively chrysanthemums and nandina branches or irises divided by narrow bands of seigaiha [wave] and manji patterns, the reverse with scrolling foliage and flowers
