The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.

The painting presents well in natural light, with the crispness of the execution and colours well preserved. The canvas has been subject to relining; it is held under tension and remains stable. The relining process has caused some slight thinning to the paint layers. In natural light some very minor points of scattered retouching to the background can be seen. The paint remains stable. Examination under UV light reveals the painting to be in very good condition, with only a couple of very minimal spots of retouching on the sitter's dress. There is a partialy cleaned cloudy varnish.
