Le département Livres et Manuscrits de Christie’s Paris invite bibliophiles, et amateurs à parcourir sept siècles d’histoire.

La vente s’ouvre sur une section livres anciens comprenant un exemplaire très pur de l’édition originale de la Théologie de Sebond traduite par Montaigne, en vélin de l’époque.

Les philosophes des Lumières seront aussi représentés, avec un ensemble de livres et lettres autographes de Rousseau, ainsi que les manuscrits de Turgot pour ses discours en Sorbonne, provenant des archives du château familial.

Des lumières à la Révolution, la vente présentera deux lettres de Robespierre commentant l’actualité et les conditions du droit de vote, plusieurs papiers-peints républicains et d’autres pièces historiques, dont une Description de l’Egypte, en grand papier et en cartonnages d’époque, provenant d’un membre de l’expédition, conservé dans une impressionnante caisse de transport sur mesure.

La section moderne inclut des originales de Romain Gary ainsi qu’un exemplaire de tête du Cirque de Rouault dans une reliure mosaïquée de Creuzevault.

Enfin, les amateurs de science-fiction pourront découvrir deux planches monumentales de Philippe Druillet pour Les six voyages de Lone Sloane.

This autumn, Christie’s Paris Books and Manuscripts department is pleased to invite bibliophiles, collectors and enthusiasts to explore seven centuries of book history.

The sale begins with an extraordinary copy of the first edition of Sebond’s Théologie translated by Montaigne, in contemporary vellum.

Philosophers of the Enlightenment will also be represented, with a set of books and autograph letters by Rousseau, as well as manuscripts of Turgot’s Sorbonne speeches from the archives of the family castle.

From the Enlightenment to the French Revolution, the sale will feature two letters of Robespierre commenting current events and the conditions of the right to vote, several republican wallpapers and various historical items, including a large paper copy of the Description de l’Egypte, from a member of the expedition, preserved in its period binding and in an impressive custom-made travel case.

The modern section includes first editions of Romain Gary as well as a deluxe copy of Cirqueby Rouault bound by Creuzevault.

Finally, science fiction enthusiasts will discover two spectacular boards by Philippe Druillet for The 6 voyages of Lone Sloane.
