Sale Overview
Christie’s London Jewels will take place from 14–25 November and features an exciting variety of important antique and period jewels, as well as a fine selection of coloured gemstones, diamonds and many contemporary signed jewels from the most renowned jewellery houses.
The sale includes a magnificent group of jewellery from the collection of the Wimborne family. Several of these jewels are seen worn by Alice, Viscountess Wimborne (1880–1948) in two wonderfully glamorous portrait photographs captured by the celebrated British photographer, Sir Cecil Beaton.
Highlights from the collection include a superb Cartier Art Deco emerald and diamond bracelet (Lot 162), an Art Deco emerald, pearl and diamond pendant (Lot 158), and an Art Deco ruby, pink sapphire and diamond pendant (Lot 155) — both pendants can be worn on an Art Deco diamond necklace (Lot 161), as depicted in the Beaton photographs.
Other important jewels include a fine 10.37 carat Kashmir sapphire and diamond brooch (Lot 163), a late 19th-century diamond tiara (Lot 139), a Cartier Art Deco ruby and diamond bracelet (Lot 145), and a pair of Art Deco Cartier natural pearl and diamond earrings (Lot 152).
The sale will also offer a wide-ranging selection of signature designs by leading jewellery houses, including Cartier, Bulgari and Van Cleef & Arpels.
