The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
The pigments are rubbed and fainted due to light damp, particularly to the left side of this painting. They are flaked and lightly pitted in the areas at the back of the horse and to the upper and right part of the hill. The borders are scuffed and show some losses to the lower right corner and centre right. There are two main areas of creasing, to the upper and lower part of the red margins and some minor areas of subsequent repainting. The top corner shows two arrows in black ink for framing. the reverse shows a large black ink spill.
