Condition report
A Christie's specialist may contact you to discuss this lot or to notify you if the condition changes prior to the sale.
The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
The general condition of the painting is quite good. However, there are several areas with (long) cracks in the paint layer including slightly lifting edges. The canvas tension is reasonable but the canvas support is not flat or plain and shows noticeable distortions which correspond with the (multi) layering and thickness of the paint. Those unevenness is also visible on the reverse where the signature of the artist is present in the upper left corner of the canvas. The tacking margins are not visible but covered by the frame. The stretcher seems to be original, showing several labels of exhibitions (between 1927 and 1977). There are minor retouchings, some of these places show a strong and different fluorescence. The retouching in the lower left end right match with some dark areas on the reverse. The glossy varnish is discolored and the surface shows locally brown stains.
