222 x 174 cm.).
English
The painting is in a satisfying state of conservation.
The painting has been subject to a relining in the first half of the 20th century. A piece of canvas, affixed with wax, can be seen at the reverse, in the lower left corner (16 x 22 cm.).
To the naked eye, a vertical canvas stitch is noticeable at 155 cm. from the left edge. Mattified varnish can be seen in the upper left part. Under a dirt layer of varnish that would need to be cleaned.
Ultraviolet examination reveals a thick layer of varnish which precludes a more in depth examination of previous restoration campaigns. The flesh is well preserved and some scattered retouching to the backgrounds is noticeable. A restored area is noticeable in the lower part, in the water, and can probably be linked to the piece of canvas affixed on the reverse. The drapery and the dog are well preserved. Good overall state under ultraviolet examination.
In a Regency style, giltwood and golden stucco frame with a cartouche identifying the model and the artist (approx. 222 x 174 cm.).
