44 x 56 cm.).
English
The canvas has been subject to relining; it Is held under tension and remains stable. The relining process has slightly flattened the painting surface in certain areas.
In natural light a band of retouching can be seen along the upper edge of the composition, likely connected with previous damage from the stretcher. There is a network of craquelure, more pronounced in the lower section of the composition, likely due to the choice of ground. There is a restored tear visible to the female figure on the left.
Examination under UV light reveals some recent minor scattered retouching, and an historic campaign of restoration can also be discerned. The thickness of the varnish prevents a more in depth examination. The paint remains stable.
In a carved giltwood frame (approx. 44 x 56 cm.).
