A l'œil nu, le tableau se présente dans un bon état de conservation général. Il possède un niveau d'encrassement relativement faible. Il a fait l'objet d'un rentoilage ancien réalisé il y a plus d'une cinquantaine d'années correctement réalisé mais qui a tassé la matière picturale par endroits. A l'œil nu, on constate des repeints dans le drapé rouge en haut au centre ainsi qu'une légère restauration au niveau du chapeau de l'enfant.

A la lampe UV, on constate des restaurations ponctuelles dans le bras gauche de l'enfant, au niveau de son poignet, la manche droite de l'enfant, quelques restaurations dans sa robe et des restaurations dans les fonds du paysage au niveau du ciel et une restauration un peu plus importante dans l'arbre. Ces restaurations ont été très bien effectuées et ne sont pas visibles à l'œil nu.

Dans un cadre doré de style XVIIe siècle (135 x 110,5 cm.).

In natural light the painting appears to be in a good state of preservation. The surface is relatively clean. The canvas has been subject to relining; the process was carried out in the first half of the 20th Century and was executed sensitively, though the paint surface was nonetheless slightly impacted. Minor retouching can be seen in the red curtain at upper centre. There is a small area of restoration near the child's hat.

Examination in UV light reveals scattered retouching in the child's left arm, in the costume and in the landscape. There is some slightly more extensive retouching in the tree.
