Le tableau est peint sur sa toile d'origine. Le support est stable.

A l'oeil nu, on constate des restaurations dans le cadre doré en trompe-l'oeil ainsi qu'une longue bande de restauration brune et rouge le long du bord supérieur. Le réseau de craquelures est un peu prononcé mais stable.

A l'UV, on constate des petites restaurations ponctuelles dans le chat au niveau des yeux, surtout l'oeil gauche, ainsi qu'une restauration un petit plus débordante dans le fond noir. Le tableau est sous un vernis partiellement nettoyé avec des traces de vieux vernis au niveau de l'entablement et de quelques éléments du coussin.

The canvas is unlined; it is held under tension and remains stable.

In natural light, some minor retouching can be seen in the trompe l'oeil gold frame, and a thin line of retouching in the tromp l'oeil shadow to the upper canvas edge and a small area of red paint to the upper left-hand corner. There is a fine network of craquelure. The paint remains stable.

Examination under UV light reveals some very minor scattered retouching in the cat, notably to the left eye and in the dark background to the upper part of the composition. The varnish has been partially cleaned, leaving some traces of the old varnish over the cushion and the feigned frame.

The painting presents very well in natural light, with the crispness of the composition and the depth of colour well preserved.
