80 x 70 cm.).
English
The canvas has been subject to relining; it is held under tension and remains stable. The relining process has flattened the paint surface in certain areas. Notably, blacks of the costume and the hat have lost some of their definition.
In natural light, it is evident that the painting was originally conceived in a feigned oval; the corners have been painted in at a later date. The varnish has yellowed and carries some dirt.
Examination under UV light confirms the above observations. There is further scattered retouching, notably to the collar. The thickness of the varnish precludes a more in depth examination.
In a painted and molded frame (approx. 80 x 70 cm.).
