Epitomising the work of Gillis Claesz. Hondecoeter (1575/1580-1638), this charming little copper includes all the compositional elements most dear to the artist. Far from broad landscapes, this tight composition allows him to show off his meticulous and delicate brushstrokes. At ease in his depiction of shimmering foliage, the artist playfully inserts infinitesimally small elements, such as the frog that seems to capture the attention of the cows, or the sparrow in the centre foreground, all of which seem to come together in a sort of earthly paradise.

Dans le plus pur style de Gillis Claesz. Hondecoeter (1575/1580-1638), notre charmant petit cuivre concentre les éléments de composition chers à l’artiste. Loin des paysages abondants, cette composition resserrée laisse place à la minutie et aux touches délicates des coups de pinceaux de l’artiste. À l’aise dans sa représentation de la végétation chatoyante, l’artiste n’hésite pas à insérer des éléments infiniment petits, telle cette grenouille qui semble capter l’attention des ruminants, ou ce moineau au centre au premier plan, qui semblent tous cohabiter dans un Éden terrestre.
