Sale Overview
In London this autumn, Christie’s Middle Eastern Modern and Contemporary Art sale returns to deliver strong quality and institutional pieces from the region, fusing modern pioneers with contemporary. Featuring iconic works by leading names like Faeq Hassan, Dia Azzawi, Mahmoud Sabri, Mohamed Melehi and Abdulnasser Gharem, this selection illustrates the rich artistic capitols from Morocco, Baghdad, Khartoum to Riyadh.
This season we pay careful attention to the unique histories and provenance across East and West, highlighting dialogues spanning the 20th century to the present day, to connect both seasoned and new international collectors with fine examples at attractive price points.
The Orin and Rita Parker Collection of Modern Iraqi Art leads the modern section, which surveys the nascent and rich 1960s Baghdad art scene through the eyes of an American family living in the city from 1960-1965. The contemporary section is reinforced by the next iteration of The Future is Unwritten Healing Arts Campaign, produced in partnership with CULTURUNNERS as part of the World Health Organisation’s Solidarity Series of Events, and as seen across 20/21 sales at Christie’s.
