The woodcut is developed from a series of images Fisher has made, which explore the lives of notable women. Margaret Morse (1883-1974) was one of the world’s leading ornithologists, and author of Studies in the Life of the Song Sparrow (1937).
James Fisher (British, born 1972) attained a BA at the University of Brighton (1992-1995) and an MA at the Royal College of Art (1995-1997) and was a recipient of an Abbey Scholarship in Painting at the British School at Rome in 2001. He was awarded a PHD in Fine Art at the University of Gloucestershire in 2009 following a series of exhibitions that explored relationships between painting, music and text.

Once a lot has been reserved and added to your basket, you will have a ten minute reservation window to complete checkout. If checkout is not completed within this time the lot will no longer be reserved and will be re-offered back into the sale. It is only upon successful payment for the reserved lot that the lot will be purchased by you. You will not acquire title and own the lot until all amounts due to Christie’s have been received by us in full and funds cleared, even in circumstances where Christie’s has released the lot to you. The buyer is solely responsible for any errors in purchasing a lot.
You must pay for any lot bought via the online-only sale by credit card. Partial payment of a lot, or payment across multiple debit/credit cards for a single lot, will not be allowed. If you purchase multiple lots, you may purchase one lot with one debit/credit card and another lot with a different debit/credit card but you will need to go through two separate check-outs.
