Lot Notes
The work belongs to the series “Monumental Trees”, dedicated to the arboreal splendour of the Italian countryside: the chestnut tree portrayed here is located in Laion, in the province of Bolzano. Etching was always Galli’s medium, which she pursued throughout the years when Italian art was split between conceptualism and figuration. When etching nature on metal she was capable of blending the great Italian landscape tradition, from Piranesi to Canaletto, with a taste for observing the real en plein air.
Artist's Biography
Federica Galli (born in Soresina, 1932; died Milan 2009) graduated in painting at the Academy of Fine Arts, Brera (1950-54). It was here that she first began depicting the local countryside in etching, a medium that she never abandoned. Her complete graphic works are kept in the Collection of Prints Achille Bertarelli, Milan, and at the Museo Civico Ala Ponzone, Cremona.

Payment Information
Once a lot has been reserved and added to your basket, you will have a ten minute reservation window to complete checkout. If checkout is not completed within this time the lot will no longer be reserved and will be re-offered back into the sale. It is only upon successful payment for the reserved lot that the lot will be purchased by you. You will not acquire title and own the lot until all amounts due to Christie’s have been received by us in full and funds cleared, even in circumstances where Christie’s has released the lot to you. The buyer is solely responsible for any errors in purchasing a lot.
You must pay for any lot bought via the online-only sale by credit card. Christie’s will only accept debit/credit cards with a MasterCard, Visa, Discover (including Diners Club International and JCB), American Express, or China Union Pay (if the China Union Pay credit card has a Visa or MasterCard logo). Other methods of payment will not be accepted. Christie’s will only accept payment from the registered buyer – individual or entity. If you registered and buy as an entity in accordance with paragraph 2(b) in the Terms & Conditions, your entity will need to pay for any purchases via a debit/credit card issued to the entity’s account.
Partial payment of a lot, or payment across multiple debit/credit cards for a single lot, will not be allowed. If you purchase multiple lots, you may purchase one lot with one debit/credit card and another lot with a different debit/credit card but you will need to go through two separate check-outs. If you buy any lot, in order to pay for your lot, you will need to log onto your account and check out your basket on the “My Account - My bids and checkout - Checkout” tab. You will need to enter your debit/credit card information on check-out. The debit/credit card you provide will be charged in pounds sterling. For non-UK buyers, the actual amount to be paid in your home currency will be determined by the exchange rate used by your debit/credit card company when you are actually charged. Should you send someone to collect your purchase(s) on your behalf, please complete a Letter of Authorization and send it to us at buyorbid@christies.com prior to collection. Your representative must present a valid picture ID at the time of collection, such as a driver’s license or passport. Christie's South Kensington is located at at 85 Old Brompton Road, London SW7 3LD, and our hours of operation are Monday to Friday, 9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. GMT.
Subject to paragraph 5(g) in the Terms & Conditions, Christie’s will store your lots free of charge until the relevant deadline for shipment, at which time purchases will be shipped to you at your expense and pursuant to the instructions you provided at time of payment.
