Lot Essay

Although no directly related painting by the artist is know for which the drawing could have served as a preparatory study, it can be compared to the figure of Venus in Juno borrowing the belt of Venus, recently sold at Sothbey's, Paris, 11 December 2019, lot 3.

We are grateful to Joseph Baillio for confirming the attribution on 14 February 2020 on the basis of a photograph.
