Lot Essay
The rendering of the figures in this sheet, their faces drawn with short crescent shaped strokes, is characteristic for Diepenbeeck and can be seen in many of his drawings (see, for example, A frontispice design for the thesis of the Morel brothers, previously in the I.Q. van Regteren Altena Collection and sold at Christie's, London, 10 July 2014, lot 13; H. Schneider, 'Een Thesis van Abraham van Diepenbeeck', Onze Kunst, XXIV, 1928, pp. 162-165).

Condition report
A Christie's specialist may contact you to discuss this lot or to notify you if the condition changes prior to the sale.
The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
Executed on laid paper and not laid down. The sheet was previously laid down and there are remnants of the old backing sheet on the verso. There is an occasional thin spot, as the result of the removal of the backing sheet. The paper is somewhat discoloured and there are some scattered small stains. The sheet is window mounted. The brown ink has somewhat sunk, but the media remain otherwise strong. Framed.
