Lot Essay

The Dormeuil collection was a celebrated collection of mediaeval enamels, ivories and other works of art that was largely assembled by Georges Dormeuil (1856-1939), whose family had made their money in the texile industry. Many pieces were donated by the family to the Louvre and the Musée Carnavalet, and major auctions of the collection were held in 1949 and 2007.
