The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
The varnish is clear and the paint stable on the support. The panel is cradled on the reverse but retains some evidence of beveling along the left and right edges. Inspection under ultraviolet light reveals a passage of retouching measuring approximately 5 inches in diameter in the background to the bunch of green grapes. Additional smaller passages of retouching, generally to reinforce the contours of the still life elements, fluoresce in the upper right background, as do finer lines in the lower background. Further lines of strengthening fluoresce in the wooden ledge, presumably to address a horizontal panel join, and basket. The still life elements appear to be generally well preserved, save some fine strokes of strengthening in the red grapes and a line of retouching along a horizontal panel join approximately 1/3 the way down the composition. The painting has been recently conserved and should be displayed in its current state.
