Condition report
A Christie's specialist may contact you to discuss this lot or to notify you if the condition changes prior to the sale.
The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
The canvas is unlined and appears to be on its original strainer. The varnish is clear and the paint stable on the support. Marks from the stretcher bar are visible in natural light, as is a deformation to the canvas. There is an appreciable sense of impasto to the rendering of the flower petals. Ultraviolet light reveals that the painting has been selectively cleaned in the past, with the remains of an earlier varnish fluorescing unevenly. Areas of retouching appear to be limited to a handful of scattered dots measuring ¼ inch in diameter or less in the background. The painting appears to be in overall excellent condition and should be displayed in its current state.
