Sale Overview
Christie’s June sale of Old Master paintings and sculptures features significant examples from a wide range of periods and schools of Western European art, with works ranging in price from a few thousand dollars to more than $100,000. Among the sale highlights are a set of four Neapolitan views by Pietro Antoniani, a collector’s cabinet by Giuseppe Bernardo Bison and an early Rest from the hunt by François Boucher. The sale also includes a number of significant rediscoveries, including paintings by Jacob Jordaens, Orazio Borgianni, Isaac Luttichuys and an early portrait of Rembrandt by an anonymous artist in his studio. Further highlights are paintings and sculpture from the famed collection formed by James and Marilynn Alsdorf, including a powerful Baroque bronze depicting Hercules and a charming pair of floral still lifes by Simon Pietersz.
