The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
The panel is approximately 1/4 inch thick and is beveled on all for sides. A vertical wooden batten is affixed to the center of the reverse. The panel is in plane and the paint is stable on the support. Under natural light, the varnish is clear and a fine craquelure is faintly visible in places along the vertical wood grain. Slightly discolored retouching is visible along a vertical line running down the center of the panel, corresponding to the aforementioned batten and likely indicates a panel join. This line fluoresces under ultraviolet light, along with some scattered touches in the background, on the back of the Virgin’s head and on the standing figure at left, along with a 1⁄4 inch area on the column above the latter’s head. The painting presents very nicely and may be displayed as is. The work is offered in a carved and gilt wood frame.
