Lot Essay

Gaspar Lopez, known as Gasparro dai Fiori, was a celebrated painter known for his mastery of the floral still life. The present scene is typical of his mature work, with an abundance of flowers set in classical urns and shown in a rural landscape setting. When sold in these rooms in 2008, John T. Spike confirmed the attribution to Gaspar Lopez, on the basis of photographs.
