Condition report
A Christie's specialist may contact you to discuss this lot or to notify you if the condition changes prior to the sale.
The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
The canvas has a glue relining and is stable on its stretcher. The paint surface is a little dirty beneath a glossy varnish. The canvas appears to have been folded over approximately 5 in. from the upper and left hand edge with restoration to those lines visible to the naked eye and in the catalogue image. The paint surface is somewhat abraded in areas of the background and the faces of the background figures. There is some very minor abrasion at the edges.
Inspection under UV is impeded by the opaque varnish which fluoresces green.
According to taste, the painting could be hung in its present state.
