The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
The canvas is reinforced on the reverse with a glue lining which retains good tension. The varnish is yellowed and the paint stable on the support. A fine craquelure is visible in natural light. Under ultraviolet light, the aged varnish fluoresces green, inhibiting full inspection of the work. A handful of fine strokes fluoresce along the upper edge in the sky, as do scattered pinhead sized dots of retouching, presumably to address abrasion to the high points of the canvas weave, in and around the central figures. The painting can be enjoyed in its current state or conserved, according to taste.
