Sale Overview
Put simply, Michael Jordan and his signature line of footwear are the foundational pillars of modern basketball and the worldwide phenomenon of sneaker collecting. Beginning in 1985 with the release of the Air Jordan 1, Nike’s Jordan Brand has been at the forefront of a pop culture movement that has spanned the globe.
In “Original Air: Michael Jordan Game-Worn and Player Exclusive Rarities,” Christie’s and Stadium Goods have partnered to offer an unique sneaker overview of Michael Jordan’s era-defining Chicago Bulls career. From a pre-Jordan Brand Nike Air Ship Jordan worn during his rookie season, to the very pair of the Air Jordan 7 “Olympic” worn in the Dream Team’s gold medal game in 1992, to a pair of classic Jordan 14s worn during practice for his final Bulls appearance, “Original Air” provides a one-of-a-kind look at Jordan’s career and his footwear’s impact on sports, culture and style.
The inaugural sale includes a game-worn Nike Air Ship from early in Jordan’s rookie season; a game-worn Air Jordan 1 from the infamous “Shattered Backboard” exhibition 1985 game in Italy; Signed Air Jordan 1 TYPS Player Exclusive (PE); Game-worn and signed Air Jordan 4; Air Jordan 5 PE; Air Jordan 7 game-worn while winning the Olympic Gold Medal with the “Dream Team” in 1992; Air Jordan 10 PE baseball cleats; Air Jordan 10 “Shadow” PE; Game-worn and triple-signed Air Jordan 11 “Concord” PE - with proceeds of this lot being donated to the NAACP Legal Defense Fund; Mint-condition Air Jordan 11 “Bred” PE; and Practice-worn Air Jordan 14 PE.
With 11 of the rarest Air Jordan sneakers in existence, “Original Air” presents the most significant collection of historic Michael Jordan footwear memorabilia ever offered on the auction market.
