Christie’s is pleased to announce its Spring Photographs sale will open for online bidding from 19 May – 3 June. The auction will include iconic property by significant 20th century photographers such as Edward Weston, Irving Penn, Diane Arbus and Robert Frank and contemporary artists including Hiroshi Sugimoto, Thomas Ruff and Wolfgang Tillmans.
The sale begins with PROPERTY FROM THE PERSONAL COLLECTION OF DAVID SCHEINBAUM AND JANET RUSSEK AND THE BEAUMONT AND NANCY NEWHALL ESTATE (lots 1- 30), a section that includes two photographs from Alfred Stieglitz’s deeply personal Equivalents series; Laura Gilpin’s celebrated Storm from La Bajada Hill, New Mexico; and a rare Ansel Adams album of Polaroid prints.
From there, the offerings bridge classic and contemporary photographs. Additional collections include PROPERTY FROM AN IMPORTANT JAPANESE COLLECTION (lots 112-172), featuring a selection of rare post-war Japanese photographs; PROPERTY FROM THE COLLECTION OF SALAH BACHIR AND JACOB YEREX (lots 173-200), comprised of lively Andy Warhol Polaroids, Robert Mapplethorpe figure studies and still-lifes, sensual Herb Ritts portraits, among other works; and THE COLLECTION OF RICHARD L. WEISMAN (lots 246-250), which features a unique group of works by Peter Beard.
