Christie’s Photographs department in New York is pleased to announce their fall Photographs sale, an online auction open for bidding from 22 September – 6 October.
The auction will include an exceptional selection of vintage prints of images from the first half of the 20th century by artists including Man Ray, André Kertész, Alfred Stieglitz, Dorothea Lange and Edward Weston. Other offerings will include works by Irving Penn from a variety of the artists’ series as well as other classic Post-War images by Ansel Adams, Robert Frank, Peter Hujar, Robert Mapplethorpe and others, along with works by contemporary artists including Andreas Gursky, Thomas Struth, Robert Polidori and Catherine Opie.
Among the private collections being offered in the auction is Modern Perspectives: Photographs from a Distinguished East Coast Collection, with auction highlights including Alfred Stieglitz’s 1915 masterpiece in platinum, From the Back-Window, 291, as well as two rare portraits of Lee Miller by Man Ray, among other iconic 20th century images. The sale will also include a group of important Post-War photographs being sold to benefit Aperture Foundation.
