Sale Overview
Christie’s is honoured to celebrate Maison Joseph Drouhin with a unique, once in a lifetime, auction of library wines directly from the cellars of the famous Domaine.
Founded in 1880, the Drouhin family have established themselves as one of the greatest names in Burgundy.
The wines, vintages and formats on in this catalogue are exceptional and reflect the best quality from their specific terroir. Bottles, Magnums, Jeroboams, Rehoboams, Methuselahs and a rare Salmanazar all feature, which is an exciting breadth of offerings for wine lovers, planning dinners and parties. All lots are in fantastic condition, with special commemorative labels and boxes.
Beginning with Experience Lots, we are thrilled to offer you the opportunity to taste, dine and stay with Maison Joseph Drouhin. We follow with one of the most captivating lots of the sale: Case number 001 of the limited edition l'Ecrin, a showcase of the most emblematic wines of the estate, from the famed 2024 vintage. Only 240 of these special cases were produced, and so it is a joy for us to offer one in this catalogue.
Lots flow down the Côte d'Or, beginning with Chambertin-Clos-de-Bèze, which feature special vintages such as 1978, 1996 and 2005 amongst others. Charmes-Chambertin and Griotte-Chambertin continue the offering, with the latter also featuring the renowned 1978 vintage.
Into Morey Saint Denis, we are happy to present vintages of Clos de la Roche, before Bonnes-Mares starts the Chambolle-Musigny lots, again with the 1978 vintage and following with more famed vintages, 1990, 2005 and 2009.
Musigny is one of the most emblematic wines of Maison Joseph Drouhin and the lots featured here are truly special. 1978 begins in bottle and a rare Jeroboam, followed by a special 1985 Rehoboam and then 90s and early 00s vintages in various formats.
Another notable wine of Drouhin is Chambolle-Musigny Les Amoureuses, where the 1978 vintage continues its special feature, and a beautiful Jeroboam of 2009 excites us.
Clos de Vougeot, Grands-Échezeaux and Échezeaux are widely featured in bottles, Magnums, Jeroboams and one Rehoboam, which is the 1985 Clos de Vougeot, a special offering.
Romanée-Saint-Vivant and Richebourg continue the Vosne-Romanée offerings, before we arrive at a wine close to Véronique’s heart, the Premier Cru, Les Petits Monts. These are wines of depth and tension and we are delighted to have a range of vintages and formats on offer.
Beaune Clos des Mouches, perhaps the vineyard most closely associated with the Drouhin family now and historically, is a vineyard planted to both red and white grapes. The 1961 vintage seen here is the oldest in the auction and we are thankful to Frédéric that his birth vintage, 1968, is offered here in Jeroboam. Many large formats appear here, including Methuselah. The Blanc lots are equally as special, with large formats back to the 1999 vintage on offer.
Drouhin’s most famous white wine is surely Montrachet Marquis de Laguiche. The family have tended the Marquis de Laguiche plot since 1947 and the wines are enthralling. 1980s vintages in wonderful condition lead, alongside a Salmanazar of 2006 and a Methusaleh of 2009.
Bâtard-Montrachet, Puligny-Montrachet Les Folatières, Chassagne-Montrachet Morgeot Marquis de Laguiche, Meursault Perrières and Grand Cru Chablis complete the special white Burgundy offering.
Established in 1987, Domaine Drouhin produces beautiful Pinot Noir from their estate vineyards in the Dundee Hills and the Eola-Amity Hills. 1990's vintages, including the important Laurène cuvée (named for Véronique's daughter), are offered.
